What is the Thame Cars Vehicle Health Check?

The VHC is a thorough maintenance check which includes; a basic mechanical check to ensure the engine, gearbox and other fundamentals are operating correctly, checking of consumables such as wiper blades and light bulbs, a thorough brake check, and any other checks necessary to ensure your vehicle is safe and properly maintained.

It's a free service which only takes around 30 minutes, and once completed you will be given a printout with a detailed summary of the results. To enable you to make a quick and easy decision about what action - if any - to take in response to your VHC, we use a simple traffic light system as follows:

Green:

Good news! Your vehicle has been given a clean bill of health and no repair or maintenance work is required.

Amber :

While some work is advised or there are issues which could require attention in future and therefore should be monitored, no urgent repairs are needed at present. For example, brake wear might be nearing the point at which the brake pads should be replaced, however is currently within acceptable standards. In these types of cases we will send a reminder for you to come in when it is likely that further action is required, for another VHC to check the status of previous amber issues.

Red:

A Red VHC result denotes that there are urgent safety issues with your car which require immediate attention.

The Annual MOT Test

Your vehicles MOT test is like going to a doctor for a check-up. You can never be sure how it will go until you get there! An annual MOT test of your vehicle is a mandatory requirement which takes about 45 minutes, once your vehicle passes this test it is legal to drive on the road. Our mechanics will examine your vehicle by looking at essential components such as; tyres, suspension, brakes, exhaust emissions, windscreen and lights.

If for whatever reason your vehicle is to fail its MOT test, then you will be given advice on what is needed to be done to pass, and once these issues have been fixed you are entitled to a free retest at the same garage within 10 working days. However, if you are to take your vehicle away and bring it back you won’t be entitled to the free partial retest.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have a vehicle which is under 3 years old, a MOT test is not required. This is because on average it takes 36 months of driving until the car starts to show signs of performance deterioration.
